We take that old dirty roof that has algae all over it and make it look new again. Sometimes all you need is just a few minor repairs and a roof cleaning. This may make you re-think that you need a new roof.

Although most of the time you do need a new roof, this is more for those that just need a cleaning. Your roof should be in good shape and not swelling, cracking, or lifting. Even newer roofs need cleaning. The manufacturers of shingles suggest cleaning your roofs after a few years. This helps keep the algae from eating at your roofs. It may also help extend the life of your roof. Algae eats at your roofing and also retains more water. So on hot days when we get rain, algae holds water longer thus making the granules dislodge.

Those granules are your UV protection. Not having those makes your roof dry out quicker, since your roof is oil based. The oil wicks away when exposed to the elements especially when it rains. And when we have a bad winter like the year 2009, the ice pops more of those granules away and the ice starts in on your roof.
